The winter episode that announced snowfall this Friday is confirmed. On this Friday morning in Ariège, the tricky traffic conditions in the high-altitude sectors prompted the cross-departmental direction of the southwestern roads (Dirso) to announce traffic restrictions for the RN 20. Initially, trucks over 19 tons were banned from Foix in the direction of the Principality of Andorra, except to supply Ax-les-Thermes on site. Outside the spa town, these vehicles were banned altogether.

Eventually, the weather conditions improved as the day progressed. The following traffic bans have been lifted on the N320 (access to Andorra from l’Hospitalet), on the N320 Col du Puymorens between the junction of the vineyard and La Croisade … and therefore on the RN 20 between Foix and UR.
However, special equipment is still required for driving on snow-covered roads. Extreme caution is recommended.
Special equipment must be provided in Haute Ariège, particularly for access to the Beille plateau and between Ax-les-Thermes and the Ascou-Pailhères resort. Special equipment is also recommended to reach Chioula Pass and Ax-3 Domaines Station.
