Big fortune: find out who the new French billionaires are

The main France, according to Forbes ranking, has 42 billionaires this year. Newcomers include Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna Therapeutics.

The billionaires at the top of the hexagonal charts don’t change. They are still Bernard Arnault (LVMH), Françoise Bettencourt Meyers (L’Oréal) and François Pinault (Kerings) and their families. All three grew their fortunes in 2020, a year marked by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the new classification of Forbes France magazine, 42 French people now have assets of more than one billion dollars. In 2019 there were 39. Olivier Dassault, who died in a helicopter crash on March 7, 2021, was removed from the ranking.

So who are the newcomers to this very closed club with huge French fortunes? In 23rd place is Serge Bancel with an estimated fortune of 3.5 billion euros. He is none other than the French CEO of the American company Moderna Therapeutics, in which he holds 8% of the capital. In his wake is Olivier Pomel with 1.5 billion euros. He is the head of the IT and surveillance company Datadog, which was successfully floated on the stock exchange in September 2019.

The same wealth, but also in other areas: With it, also 1.5 billion euros, Français Feuillet got rich thanks to Trigano, the European market leader for motorhomes. Yves-Loïc Martin (1.4 billion) is Administrator of Eurofins Scientific, a group of analytical laboratories specializing in the food, pharmaceutical and environmental industries.

Kim Kardashian joined the club

Nationally, Jeff Bezols, the founder of Amazon, remains the richest man in the world with $ 177 billion, followed by Elon Musk, the head of Tesla (151 billion). Bill Gates, the inventor of Microsoft (124 billion), and Marc Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook (97 billion), have also stayed true to the ranking.

The entrepreneur and American reality TV star Kim Kardashian is now also a billionaire. The 40-year-old star owes her new status in part to her two cosmetics and lingerie companies, KKW Beauty and Skims, as well as her reality TV contracts and brands for which she lends her image. As of October 2020, Forbes estimated Kim Kardashian’s net worth at $ 780 million.
