Lot-et-Garonne: A major fire breaks out in the former Saint-Cyr hospital in Villeneuve-sur-Lot

The essentials During the night from Saturday to Sunday, April 25th, around 4:30 a.m., a major fire broke out between the walls of the old Saint-Cyr hospital in the center of Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Firefighters have checked the spread of the flames but are still on site this Sunday morning.

The firefighters have been mobilized since midnight. For reasons as yet unknown, a fire broke out in one of the buildings of the former Saint-Cyr hospital in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. The emergency services were alerted around 4:30 a.m.

An important device was quickly installed to stop the flames from spreading. No fewer than 50 firefighters were mobilized at the height of the fire. Their efforts since the middle of the night paid off when they managed to contain the fire that spread through part of the mid-19th century building.

The Villeneuve-sur-Lot police force, reinforced by a team from Agen, was also there. An investigation has been launched to shed light on this tragedy, which fortunately has not fallen victim. The site is currently inaccessible. In the distance we see a pipe penetrating the building through the large door of the chapel.

The mayor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Guillaume Lepers, held a press office in the middle of the morning to take stock of this fire in one of the most emblematic buildings of the bastide.
