It is a text that responded to the highest summit in the state: On Wednesday, April 21, former soldiers, including twenty generals, denounced a “dissolution” of the country in a forum published in the newspaper Valeurs Actuelles and called for action: “The hour is serious, France is in danger, several deadly dangers threaten it. We, who remain soldiers of France even in retirement, cannot remain indifferent to the fate of our beautiful country under the present circumstances,” the text confirmed.

The document, signed by former officer Jean-Pierre Fabre-Bernadac, was also approved by “a hundred senior officers and more than a thousand other soldiers,” according to the magazine. This Wednesday, April 28th, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General François Lecointre, announced that sanctions would be imposed on the signatories of this forum.

In an interview with the Parisian, the general expressed the wish that the undersigned generals “be automatically retired”. The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces also stated that 18 soldiers currently on duty would come before the Senior Military Council. “This is an exceptional procedure that we are starting immediately at the request of the Minister of the Armed Forces. These officers-general will each go before a higher military council. At the end of this procedure, it is the President of the Republic who signs a radiation decree,” said the general.
The general’s indignation
General Lecointre expressed his indignation: “In addition, I challenge everyone, especially General Piquemal, who has already been dismissed, the right to make political commitments by highlighting their rank,” he said. The Chief of Staff affirmed that “the neutrality of the armies is essential”.

The platform was greeted by Marine Le Pen, President of the National Rally. “I invite you to join our action in order to take part in the upcoming battle (…) which is above all the battle for France,” she replied in the weekly newspaper. “As a citizen and as a politician, I subscribe to your analyzes and share your suffering.” In a text published on Monday April 26 in Liberation, Florence Parly, the Minister of the Armed Forces reacted. “What Madame Le Pen needs to be reminded of is that the armies are not a political party. The soldiers are not there to fight,” she said.
