The Nîmes feria will take place: what about the other festivals and férias in the south?

The basics The traditional Nîmes Whitsun celebration does not take place on the scheduled dates. It is being postponed to June after Emmanuel Macron announced on the deconfunding calendar.

Lovers are thrilled! The Whitsun Mass in Nîmes, one of the most important in France, will finally take place. Originally planned for the weekend of Pentecost from May 20th to 24th, it will be postponed from June 11th to June 13th.

The town hall set the date after Emmanuel Macron’s announcements in the Dépêche du Midi and in the regional press in the detention calendar. “With a strength of 5,000 authorized spectators, the reopening of cafes and restaurants was planned until 11 pm, the postponement of the event seemed to us to be cheaper after June 9,” said Mayor Jean-Paul Fournier in a press release.

The Corridas program will be presented in May. It must obtain authorization from the Prefecture of Gard.

The holidays in tension

Bullfights were planned in Arles from June 4th to 6th. The organizers are in full reflection and do not rule out, says Midi-Libre Jean-Baptiste Jalabert, organizing bullfights on June 9th or 10th. A hypothesis that has yet to be confirmed.

On the Mont-de-Marsan side, the city wanted to give it until mid-May to decide whether or not the Madeline celebrations would happen this year. “We don’t want to dream too much, but we don’t want to regret anything,” a local official told France Bleu Gascogne.

Holidays canceled

In Vic-Fezensac in den Gers there is no Feria for the Whitsun weekend this year. However, the Vicois bullfighting club has decided to postpone the bullfighting program to the weekend of July 10th and 11th, if hygienic conditions permit.

In Dax, the town hall announced at the beginning of April that the holidays would be canceled for the second time in a row, but the continuation of the bullfights in August and September on condition that half a trail is approved by the authorities.

Bayonne had also decided in mid-April to cancel its traditional summer festivals for the second time in a row. The city of Bayonne highlights the health situation as it is impossible to respect physical distance and barrier gestures.
